Supporting Suicide Prevention

At The Miner Agency (TMA), we firmly believe in the power of education and community action. That’s why, on World Suicide Prevention Day, we’re proud to share that the TMA team has completed VA S.A.V.E. training. Suicide prevention, especially among Veterans, is a critical issue, and we are committed to spreading awareness in our community.

In collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs, VA S.A.V.E. Training is a free, brief online or in-person course designed to help you act with care and compassion if you come across a Veteran who is in crisis or having thoughts of suicide. The acronym S.A.V.E. serves as a reminder of the crucial steps involved in suicide prevention:

  • Signs: Know the signs that indicate a Veteran might be thinking about suicide.
  • Ask: Ask the most important question of all “Are you thinking of killing yourself?”
  • Validate: Validate the Veteran’s experience.
  • Encourage: Encourage treatment and expedite getting help.

Why It Matters

The statistics surrounding Veteran suicide are sobering, underscoring the urgent need for action. According to the VA, an average of 17.6 Veterans die by suicide each day. This reality highlights the importance of being prepared to support those who have served our country and may be facing mental health challenges.

“In VA S.A.V.E. training, I learned the importance of recognizing the red flags of suicidal ideation and the steps to intervene effectively. As a Veteran, it is important to me that my brothers and sisters in arms receive the appropriate support and resources needed to prevent the tragic and unnecessary loss of life resulting from suicide.”
-Chrissy Miner, President & CEO of The Miner Agency
